Each new patient undergoes a consultation history followed by a physical examination to include:
Functional Performance Assessment
Our functional movement screen allows us to detect muscle imbalances, joint dysfunction, weak and tight muscles and assess overall quality of functional movement.
- Biomechanical Structural Assessment of Posture
- Assessment of muscle length-tension relationships
- Orthopedic and Neurological Evaluation
- Diagnostic Imaging Consultation/ Report of Findings
- Digital Sports Motion Video Analysis/ Pedographic Evaluation
Based on the Functional Performance Assessment...We establish a treatment plan specific to meet your goals. Common Manual Treatments insluce:
1. Active Release Techniques(ART®)
Active Release Techniques®(ART) is a non-invasive hands on treatment that locates and breaks down scar tissue and adhesions that result from AND cause soft tissue injuries.
"Strains, sprains from overzealous competitors could put an early end to your weekend warrior athletics unless you treat your injuries fast", says Dr. Matt Fontaine, a chiropractic physician who specializes in sports medicine.
After that, each patient undergoes a history taking and physical Examination to include:
2. Manipulation
Joint manipulation/ mobilization involves applying a force across the joint to seperate the joint surfaces. This can be done with a short quick thrust(manipulation) or with a slow rhythmical movement(mobilization). Either way, gapping the joint releases the joint compression, restoring normal position and motion. Joints have tiny slips of cartilage between them that can become entrapped causing the joint to become locked. This prevents the joint from gliding properly. A joint that does not glide will cause several problems including:
-
Decreased joint motion
-
Cause pain and inflammation
-
Cause muscle spasm or weakness
-
Movement patterns that prematurely wear down joints and lead to arthritis.
Joint dysfunction occurs when the joints and soft tissues become overloaded. Overload can be caused by poor posture, muscle imbalance, scar tissue, nerve entrapment, trauma, and faulty movement.
3. Kinesio Taping
Kinesio Taping has emerged as the rehabilitative taping method within the US and international medical communities. KT is used to re-educate the neuromuscular system, promote lymphatic flow, reduce pain, enhance performance, prevent injury, and promote injury resolution.
4. Therapeutic Modalities Used to Speed Recover
- Electrical Muscle Stimulation for Pain Modulation
- Cold Low Level Laser(coming soon)- used to speed protein synthesis, regenrate tissue and promote accelerated healing.
5. Active Rehabilitation
- We incorporate current scientific research with periodization principles that are tailored to your specific goals and needs. These training sessions will incorporate functional exercises, drills, and skills to improve and optimize sports and athletic performance.
- We incorporate corrective exercise as a rehabilitation tool that the patient can carry out with a personal trainer for continued guidance on their taylor made program.
- Sports Performance Programs allow us to not only identify your physical limitations but to also create programs that immediately address and correct those limitations. Our services can definitely push you ahead of the curve and propel your training and performances to the next level.
Sports and Athletic Performance Programs include instruction on:
- Corrective Stretching/ Foam Roller Exercises
- Core Stability Training
- Motor Pattern Re-Education/ Sensory-motor Balance Training
- Functional Strength Training
